Differences Between Lived experience support & Counselling :

For those participating in recovery fellowships or mutual aid support like AA , GA or Smart recovery UK, the option of selecting a sponsor is available. While sponsors and peer mentors  provide invaluable support, advice, and encouragement, there are key distinctions from My role as a recovery counsellor:

As a trained addictions counsellor and recovery coach my therapeutic practices & methods of working can provide you with a secure and evidenced based platform to learn strategies that focusses on strengthening your emotional needs and life style changes that sustain genuine recovery capital.

What separates Harmful Behaviours from a Habit :

A habit is something people may do for fun, to relax or as a way of socialising. People can choose to stop a habit, and while it may take some time, can stop successfully.

A harmful behaviour (also known as addiction), however, can be an overwhelming need or compulsion to complete the act regularly, regardless of the time or place, in order to achieve the high. In short, a habit can be controlled, while an addiction is a long term pattern of behaviour which often will be more complex to control/change.  Within my practice I will support people who wish to change and therefore habit or harmful behaviours, I'm here to help you on your road to recovery
