While the adventure of growing up can be a wonderful and exciting time, As a teenager or young adult it can, at times, be overwhelming when you experience difficulties.
There are many different approaches to help you move forward, grow confident, and increase your self-belief. Each has its own benefits, as does Youth coaching.
Counselling also known as Therapy, typically focuses on exploring past events and emotions, guiding individuals through their experiences to address and heal from trauma, ultimately bringing them back to the present. It's a valuable approach for delving into deep-rooted issues and understanding their impact.
In contrast, coaching operates in the present and looks toward the future. It involves objectively examining past patterns to illuminate new pathways forward. Coaching empowers individuals to confront challenges, develop skills, and cultivate coping strategies to forge new habits, attitudes, and abilities.
While the boundaries between coaching and counselling have become somewhat blurred over time, with coaching becoming more psychologically informed and counselling adopting a broader approach, there are still clear distinctions between the two, take a look at diagram below for a quick overview.

Wellness Coaching can also have a great many benefits from the perspective of a parent.
Youth coaching offers numerous benefits from the perspective as a parent, as it can support and enhance various aspects of your child's development. Here are several reasons why youth coaching can be highly beneficial:
Personal Growth: Youth coaching focuses on helping young people develop self-awareness, confidence, and resilience. As children grow and learn through coaching, parents witness their child's personal growth and development, which can be incredibly rewarding.
Improved Communication: Youth coaching often involves developing effective communication skills, both for expressing oneself and listening to others. As a young person learns to communicate more clearly and assertively through coaching, parents may experience improved communication within the family, leading to better understanding and stronger relationships.
Goal Setting and Achievement: Youth coaching encourages young people to set meaningful goals and take action to achieve them. Parents can support their child's goal-setting process and celebrate their achievements, fostering a sense of accomplishment and motivation.
Problem-Solving Skills: Coaching equips young people with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling them to approach challenges with creativity and resilience. Parents benefit from seeing their child develop these skills, which can be valuable both in academics and in life.
Emotional Intelligence: Youth coaching often addresses emotional intelligence, helping them to recognise and manage their emotions effectively. Parents may observe their child becoming more emotionally resilient and empathetic, leading to healthier relationships and improved well-being.
Academic Success: Coaching can support young people in setting academic goals, developing study habits, and managing school-related stress. Parents may notice improvements in their child's academic performance and confidence, leading to a positive impact on their overall educational journey.
Life Skills Development: Youth coaching can focus on building essential life skills such as time management, organisation, and decision-making. Parents benefit from seeing their child develop these skills, as they are crucial for success in various areas of life.
